Artist Yun Kim of Mountain View died suddenly after a medical procedure Dec. 13, 2024. Many of her paintings were donated to and sold by the Arkansas Craft School. She had an expressive style of painting using exuberant color on canvas and she never stopped learning.
Kim studied painting and sculpture from the third grade through college in Seoul, South Korea. She moved to New Jersey with her family in 1988 and while adapting to her new home, laid her creative pursuits aside. Kim married Bobby Hensley whom she met in New Jersey and relocated to Mountain View in 2008. Bobby preceded her in death. She'd planned to return to Korea at the end of 2024.

A Mountain View Art Guild workshop in pastels rekindled her creativity, so she became a member of the Art Guild and resumed her artistic endeavors.
Kim enjoyed working in several different media – acrylic, oil, watercolor, pastel, collage, and charcoal. Her subjects included people, animals, water and landscapes, still life, and abstracts. “I paint whatever I think is beautiful,” she says.

Her ability to capture movement in her brushwork was evident in her waterfalls, creeks, and the manes and tails of galloping horses. She lived in the forest near Mountain View where there was an excellent view and she could take photos to use as subject matter for paintings.

Part of their garage had been renovated for her studio, with the ambience and music she enjoyed while painting. She was a part of the Off the Beaten Path Studio Tour held in September every year. Our previous post about the disposition of her art held last April at the Arkansas Craft School can be viewed here.
