Meet Desmond and Joyce Simmons, owners of Lake in the Willows Apiary in Scott June 13 from 11 to 3 at the Arkansas Craft Guild & Gallery, Mountain View. Desmond has been called “the Bee Whisperer” due to his affinity with the little buzzers. They tend over 75 beehives and have been featured in the magazine Arkansas Food & Farm, Summer 2018 issue.

This is a chance to taste samples of their delicious honey products, including flavored creamed spreads made by Joyce. They will have a glass observation beehive with the Queen being tended. They explain their harvesting methods and commitment to saving bees from extinction.  The Simmons family will have raw honey, their distinctive creamed honey spreads mixed with fruits and herbs, a variety of beeswax candles, a beeswax rub for wood products, as well as lip balm made using their own beeswax. If you’re interested in becoming a beekeeper, getting Desmond’s advice would get you started on the right path.

The Arkansas Craft Guild & Gallery is home to the Arkansas Craft Guild, a member cooperative that has been promoting handcrafted in Arkansas since 1962. Just off the Square at 104 E. Main, on hwy. 66, shopping includes a wide variety of arts and crafts all by members.
