Brit McDaniel, Brit McDaniel Ceramics, became a new member of the Arkansas Craft Guild recently. She makes modern, functional ceramics in her light-filled studio nestled in the Ozark Mountains. From plates and mugs to vases and jewelry, she creates a variety of heirloom quality work that can be used in your home for generations to come.
Brit obtained a BFA in Studio Arts from the University of Memphis in 2013 and has been working professionally for 11 years. Most recently her work has been focused on glaze development after taking a Glaze Chemistry Workshop under Matt Katz (Alfred, Harvard) 2023-2024.

She writes, "I've been honing my style for over a decade, my primary focus is creating clean, modern work that feels warm and marries form and function. My influences are Scandinavian design, philosophies of the Bauhaus movement, the relationship between human and object, as well as the relationship between human and nature."
"I relocated to Mountain View in September 2023, where I now work from my home studio nestled in the wooded Ozarks. Here, I am reconnecting with my creative roots and exploring new dimensions in my work, driven by the beauty of my relationship to my surrounding. My journey continues as I embrace the freedom to create art that reflects my experiences and insights, always focused of the balance between form and function."
"In 2013, I founded Paper & Clay, a production studio in Memphis that quickly gained recognition for its unique approach to ceramic design and use of color in my glazes. As a first-generation college student, my journey has been marked by determination and a desire to break boundaries, culminating in features in prestigious publications such as Southern Living, New York Magazine, and The New York Times Wirecutter."
"Throughout my career, I have shared my insights on the intersection of art and commerce, lecturing at the University of Memphis for six semesters under the guidance of Beth Edwards and presenting at TACA on the relationship between art and business. My work has garnered accolades, including being a Runner-Up in the Garden & Gun Made in the South Awards, and I have had the privilege of collaborating with esteemed homewares brands like Anthropologie and West Elm. In 2023, I made the decision to sell Paper & Clay, allowing me to downsize and refocus on my personal ceramic design work."
"While most of my time is dedicated to my studio practice, I have some time each month set aside for coaching. I'm a natural problem solver and love helping others realize their goals. The areas where I work most often are: "Taking the Leap" transitioning to full-time creative work, Pricing and Business strategy for creatives, and Introduction to Glaze Mixing. I'm available for in-person speaking engagements and workshops as well, and I'm happy to provide a fee schedule upon request."
