No other medium can both transmit and reflect light, making glass truly unique. My work in kiln-formed art glass is a reflection of my deep appreciation for nature and the interplay of organic forms with geometric patterns. My goal is to combine and balance color, texture, and design in each piece I create. Drawing inspiration from natural elements, I explore the contrasts and connections between fluid, natural shapes and structured patterns.
As the former owner/artist of Buck Snort ’n’ Run Clay Works, texture was an important feature in my pottery when I worked in clay. I wanted to translate the visual effects of texture into glass, but maintain a smooth surface. I feel that I have achieved that using the chemical reactions of different chemistry in each glass layer to another, plus the reactions to silver with the glass. A distinctive feature of one of my processes involves layering art glass with thin sheets of silver imported from Italy. This technique, along with several others, allows me to craft visual textures and depths in my work that evokes a sense of movement. Each layer creates more depth, revealing details that invite viewers to engage with the work. I create kiln-formed fused art glass into various patterns and designs then shape many of the pendants with a diamond grinding plate after cutting a rough shape with my diamond saw.
