The urge to create has always been part of my life. The first object I remember was an attempt at a sailboat, tried to hammer a nail into a small board for the mast and smashed my thumb. After college I studied painting, weaving and other forms of needlework before becoming captivated by clay. This was a course of discovery that I have incorporated in my work. I chose to create utilitarian pottery for everyday use. Our lives are filled with disposable items, and finely crafted pottery connects us with the earth and the artist. Even though the pots can stand alone their true beauty comes alive when used. What we use everyday should add to enjoyment and beauty to everything we do. I use a smooth, very white stoneware clay. Each piece either wheel or slab formed is designed for function and beauty. I add texture to my pottery either by fluting or stamping. Food safe glazes are chosen to enhance the shape and texture of the pots.
