Kathleen Keefe has an Art Education K-12 degree and Physical Education degree. She worked for the Red Cross for 20 years. She and Terry her husband retired in 2003. They grow hard-shell gourds ranging from 4-12 inches across which then must be dried, cleaned, and decorated. Many have intricate cut-work around the tops which outline pyroengraved patterns. Some designs are burned on, color added with acrylics or watercolors or leather stains. Each is finished with polyurethane on the outside and all bowl interiors are finished with enamel, acrylic, or polyurethane.
