John Kirkpatrick – JK Woodworking

I started making canes out of unique and unusual pieces of wood I found while walking through the woods around my home. I decided to see what else I could do with wood, so I built a bench on my back porch and started carving spoons and scoops using deer antlers and other wood for handles. My first tools were a cheap set of wood carving tools, and a horse shoe rasp, which I still use. A few years ago, I found a 1949 Montgomery Wards wood lathe and all of the tools and decided to see if I could do wood turning. I am self-taught and have learned my craft through trial and error and it is constantly evolving.
