A studio jeweler since 1981, LauraJo (L.J.) is also accomplished in media as diverse as pottery, fiber and enamel. She uses this vocabulary to uniquely bring out the energy and beauty of the stones selected for her one-of-a-kind and limited production pieces. “When I lay out a stone, I often immediately see the completed piece in my mind’s eye. My challenge is to create that vision.”
She has studied in many informal group and individual studio settings and formally at both the University of Houston (BFA with honors) and the Maryland School of Art.
L.J.Â’s studio is at the top of a mountain ridge in Northwest Arkansas. Her work is the product of inspiration from the woods around her and over twenty years of experience in stone and metalwork. Although each piece is entirely hand-made by the artist, she is closely supervised by Sweet Pea, a tabby who decided to move in and become studio boss.
